First Parish Church in Weston

Use of FPCW Facilities by Outside Individuals and Groups

Given its central location, proximity to Route 95 (Rte. 128), parking and varied facilities, The First Parish Church in Weston can provide a convenient, attractive, and comfortable venue for many kinds of events. Although first priority is given to church events, First Parish has long made its spaces available to other individuals and groups, particularly 501(C)3s. The expectation is that all who use our lovely and historic buildings and grounds share in the expense of maintaining them; therefore the fee schedules are calculated on periodic reviews of our costs.

The main level of the facility consists of the Sanctuary (seats up to 340), Sears Chapel (seats 90-100), the Library, the Parlor, the Kitchen, The Gallery at First Parish, and rest rooms, including a separate handicapped bathroom. The main level is wheelchair accessible via a ramp from the upper driveway into the building. Classroom space is available both in the main building as well as the Church School wing but are somewhat less accessible. If you have concerns about accessibility, please consult with the Parish Administrator.

There is also an outdoor patio that may be used in nice weather – if interested, please consult with the Parish Administrator.

First Parish reserves the right to decline an application for use should the planned event conflict with the mission of the church.

While the use of hard liquor is prohibited anywhere on the FPCW grounds, wine and beer are allowed provided a fully-licensed and insured bartender serves such beverages. The bartender (or caterer-employer) must send an insurance binder prior to the event that names First Parish as an insured party. Users of the facilities accept full responsibility for complying with applicable laws regarding consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The Parish Hall

The Parish Hall is a large, open hall with a small stage. The hall dimensions are 30'5" by 47'8" and one wall has a large expanse of windows allowing for abundant natural light. The windows have shades for daytime projection. The stage is 20 feet wide and 11.5 feet front to back, with a rich red velvet draw curtain. (There is no backstage or wing areas so theatrical presentations require some creative staging.)

The Hall features EV speakers and an up-to-date sound system with three microphone inputs on the stage floor. Up to three microphones/stands are available for use. In addition to the main sound system, there is a moveable podium with built-in battery-powered PA (which can also be used elsewhere on the main floor of the facility). There is abundant 120V and 240V power on stage and around the room. As an example, on the stage there are 24 120V receptacles on 8 circuits and 1 30A 240V 4W receptacle. The hall has a projection room high on the rear wall which can also be used for a spotlight or stage management. There is ample power and Cat 5 and audio lines to backstage. We also have equipment that enables you to play your iPod over our speakers – be your own DJ!

The Hall is on the main level of the facility and is wheel-chair accessible. With 8-foot rectangular tables and our folding chairs, the Hall can seat up to 130 guests for a meal or approximately 160 auditorium-style. Users may bring in rental equipment (e.g. round tables) with permission from the Parish Administrator.

There is an utilitarian upright piano in the hall that you are welcome to use - if tuning is required, the cost is the responsibility of the user. Tripod projection screens and a projector cart are available for your use as well (projectors/monitors are not available but you may bring your own) and there is Wi-Fi (please be sure to indicate your desire to use the Internet – log-on password will be provided upon a completed application and receipt of the use fee).

The Kitchen
The Kitchen has a home-sized refrigerator/freezer, commercial dishwasher, four pizza ovens and a gas range, along with several sizes of coffee urns and punch bowls. There is a large counter ideal for buffet service. The fee schedule for the kitchen varies from simple beverage service, to use of the appliances/equipment, to full use, including dishes, flatware, and glass mugs. We do not provide linens or other glassware/stemware.

The Parlor
Adjacent to the Parish Hall and Kitchen, the Parlor is a 16-foot by 16-foot fireplaced living room with comfortable upholstered furniture and wonderful Steinway baby grand piano. There is also a large (and expandable) dining table. The room is ideal for intimate gatherings, small-group meetings, or music recitals (can seat approximately 50 people with upholstered furniture moved to outside walls and folding chairs set up auditorium style).

The Church Library
The Library, on the main level, has a conference table with 12 chairs available for small meetings in a cozy setting.

Small Classrooms
Most of our classrooms can seat up to 15, though some have furnishings sized more appropriately for children. Consultation with the Parish Administrator can help match our spaces to your needs.

Worship Spaces
The main Sanctuary and Sears Chapel are usually not available for non-worship events. We welcome their use for memorial services and weddings by non-parishioners but such services are considered worship and require one of our clergy to officiate. Please consult with the Parish Administrator if you are interested in using these spaces.

Sears Chapel
The chapel, named after Edmund Sears, former FPCW minister and composer of the Christmas hymn It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, is a beautifully distinctive space with a high beamed ceiling and abundant stained glass. It is often the site of smaller memorial services and intimate weddings. The chapel has a small pipe organ and a complete climate-control system to ensure your comfort any time of the year.

Main Sanctuary
The Sanctuary dates to 1888 and has soaring beamed ceilings (with modern lighting!), spectacular stained-glass windows including one by Louis Tiffany, and a newly-renovated Hook & Hastings pipe organ. Like Sears Chapel, the Sanctuary is climate-controlled.
