The All-Parish Project
2004-2005

Each year, The First Parish Church in Weston has the custom of finding, funding, and finishing a special project that has the potential to change us and change the world. "All-Parish" means all of us –
children as well as adults.

For 2004-05, our project was working with
The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry
in Roxbury, Massachusetts.

This from the Standing Committee 2004 Annual Report, published in January 2005:

Chris Nelson again chaired the Program Subcommittee of the Standing Committee which spent most of its efforts organizing the 2004-05 all-parish service project. This academic year, we are working with the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry which provides a number of programs and services for the Roxbury community with particular focus on at-risk children. The service project steering committee of Cristy Ballou Brackett, Gary Farner, Chris Nelson, Sue Spencer, Annie Stubbs and Jane White organized a number of activities for our parishioners to contribute to the UUUM's efforts: our high-schoolers have been meeting with the Explorers' Club, a group of about 25 at-risk children who get together on Saturdays at the First Church in Roxbury and take monthly field trips; we helped prepare the grounds of the First Church for the grand opening of the Education and Justice Center; we hosted the reception of that opening and the celebration of the 200th anniversary of First Church Roxbury's current church building; and throughout the winter our church school will be assisting with the food pantry that serves the Asian community in Roxbury. Our church school also is making quilts for Renewal House, a safe-house for victims of domestic violence. More than 50 parishioners have participated in one or more of these service projects. - Winifred Li, Chair
